# SharePoint Online entity types

# SharePoint Online entity types

SignNow for SharePoint Online works with two types of SharePoint entities: **document libraries** and **lists**. Each serves a different purpose in the integration.

**Document libraries** store files. Use them when you want to send an existing file for signature.

**SharePoint lists** store structured data records. Use them when you want to send a SignNow template pre-filled with data from a list record.

| | Document library | SharePoint list |
|---|---|---|
| What you send | Files | SignNow templates |
| Data pre-fill / mapping | Optional, from SharePoint Documents | Core feature, from SharePoint Lists |
| Signed document storage | Stored in the library folder the file was sent from | Attached to the corresponding list record |
| Self Sign | ✅ | ❌ |
| Multiple items | ✅ Multiple files merged into one document group | ❌ One record at a time |
| Custom action type | File from SharePoint library | SignNow template |
| Invite tracking | Per document | Per list record |
